Alaska Salmon Fishing 8-12

Alaska Salmon Fishing I fished with a group of 4 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon.  The Am group caught 6 silver salmon and missed several others.  The afternoon group caught 4 Alaska Salmon Fishingin 3 hours.

8-11 AM/PM

I fished with a group of four today in the morning and we caught 8 silver salmon and a Chum salmon.  In the afternoon we caught 8 Silver salmon as well.  The fishing was tougher later in the day but we got the fish in.  The river continues to go down and is slightly clearing.

I went out today with 3 in the boat, it took some work but we caught our limit. We caught 7 males all between 9 and 11 pounds and one 6 pound female The water remains higher than normal and dirty due to boat traffic.  I think there were as many boats today as there was the second day of bait. I saw two cow moose on the way to the river today.

Tight lines,

8-6 to 8-8

I have had a busy couple of days.  The river opened to bait and we have been catching our limit every time we have gone out.  I have had 6 trips and taken family out as well.  The fishing has slowed down today and the boat traffic is still high but not quite as bad as it has been in past years.

We caught all 5 species of Pacific Salmon the first two days of bait, including a fresh sockeye, a very old and moldy King and several Pinks and Chums.

8-3-10 Little Susitna River

Kaylee (3 1/2), Juliann (4 mos.) and I just returned home from the river. We are getting ready to smoke our catch! Kaylee fought her first salmon today and won. Greg took out two fishermen this morning and limited in a couple of hours so the girls and I went out. We caught two silvers and two chums using spinners. Greg is out with his second group of clients at the moment. I will blog more later... We still have room in the afternoon of the 5th if anyone wants to go. Call me- 907-745-1712. Lori

I fished an early morning trip today.  My client caught a silver on the first cast, we let it go.  It was small in lip hooked.  We caught three fish in the next hole and I lost one.   We were done early but are now able to get some other things done.

Tight Lines,

7-30 PM

I fished with two fly fisherman this morning.  we caught a few salmon but the conditions were less than ideal for fly fishing.  we brought back three silvers and one sockeye.  We also released a couple of chums and one Pink salmon.  The water remains high and dirty, but I expect it to drop soon..

Hatchers Pass & Talketna

I took a drive over Hatchers Pass and went to Talketna 7-28.  If you have not done this it is a great drive and offers lots of beautiful scenery.  We also shopped in Talketna, I was surprised at the prices, they are very comparable to Anchorage and the Valley.  So id you are wanting to do some shopping and take a drive give it a go.
On a side not I examined the launch and have made some arrangements to include the Talketna river and clear creek for next year.

Tight Lines,

Silvers 7-27

I fished with a returning group of clients the 27th.  Five people fished catching 10 Silver Salmon, 4 Chum Salmon, 3 Pink Salmon and 1 Sockeye Salmon.  We hooked and lost 6 or 7 other fish which appeared to be silver salmon.  The fishing continues to be excellent despite higher than average water conditions.  The water is dirty but should clear as it drops over the next two days.  We are catching our fish on spinners and small plugs.
This day we saw a Moose, geese, cranes and ducks on the river.

Give us a call and lets go fishing,

I fished with two client this morning, the fishing was intermitent at first but we kept at it releasing one silver before catching our limit.  The water has come up nearly a foot overnight and is very dirty.  Fishing was more of a challenge today.  We did see a 35" bull Moose cross the river and climb the bank about one boat length from us this morning. We have openings next week and the second day of bait.  Give us a ring to schedule your trip.

I fished with 5 clients for the evening.  We caught 20 salmon keeping 13 in the boat.  We lost numerous other fish.  They were all very bright and in excellent condition.  We saw Geese, a beaver and I saw a Moose on the way to the river.  The water is high and cloudy, I expect fishing to become challenging.

Family Pike Trip

We went Pike fishing over the 4th of July.  We Caught a few good fish but it was slow, likely due to the pressure from Lake Creek  guides on the lake.
We put linoleum in the cabin, installed a refrigerator and I hung the moose rack from last year.  We also built a fire pit and knocked down the grass around the cabin.  The tubing on the lake was OK, it was a bit cold but the kids do not seem to mind.  My nephews helped me chase squirrels and fished with the neighbor boys.  A great trip.

Silvers 7-18

I took out three clients today for a whole day trip.  We Landed 6 Silvers and three chums.  We fought several other fish during he day.  A excellent first day on the water for silver salmon.  We have space avalible later in the week if you would like to go fishing.

We fished today with two clients and caught two king salmon.  One weighed 16 pounds the other weighed 28 pounds.  The fish were caught three hours apart and were the only bites that I saw.  The water remains very low and clear.

June 21st

Today was very slow on the river.  There were only a few boats.  The water remains very low, we touched bottom today cutting a corner.  We caught one kingsalmon that weighed 17 pounds and 4 jacks.  we had the most bites of any trip this year, I contribute this to little boat traffic and several unfished holes.

June 20th

I took 3 guests fishing and we caught two king salmon.  One weighed 14 pounds the other weighed 20 pounds.  The water is very low and clear.  This changes as soon as two or three boats pass.   The fish are not holding in very many holes and may take several drifts to enduce a bite. We had three bites on this trip.

June 10-15

I just spent five days on the river fishing with clients.  The water conditions are far from perfect for king salmon and the fishing has been challenging.  The water is very low and clear, this pushes the fish into smaller pockets within the holes.  Early fishing is the best and finding the fish is the biggest challenge.  With the low water levels there is a decrease in current increasing the challenge of backtrolling, I have noticed allot more anchors being used the last few days.
We have seen a wide variety of wildlife from bull moose, cows with calves (in the parking lot and river at he launch), Beavers, Muskrats, Eagles, Geese and Goslings, Ducks with chicks and a wide variety of shore birds.
The fishing has improved slightly in the last few days, I have landed a fish for each client on my last three trips.  One client did not take a fih home, he elected to try for a larger fish.
Today we hooked 4 kings landing two jacks, a 12 pounder and a 24 pound fish.  The fish have been very bright with only a few red ones coming from up river.  I have only seen two fish from down river that have had any color on them, one was quite red.
We have openings this week and will be looking forward to hearing from you.

Little Su 6-5

I fished today with a group of four.  We had a great time but the fishing was slow.  we had two bites hooking one fish and landing it, a nice 30 pound male.  The weather was great, the water was a bit dirty due to boat traffic but still very fishable.

Little Su 6-4

It was rainy and cold today.  I  had three bites, we hooked one fish for about a minutes and it got off.  The water level is low and clear.  We have saw several moose , including a bull at 30 yards.

June 3

I took my first king salmon trip of they year today.  We fished allot of good water and caught two king salmon, a 12 and 34 pound fish.  Both were bright and covered in sea lice.  The water conditions were good but the fishing was very slow.  Several other guide boats landed just one fish today.

I went to the Deshka today to catch some Hooligan. I filled  cooler in minutes, that will hold me over until next spring.  It was a great time and they are still plentifull in the river.

I Took my boat down to the river, the fishing was reported as still being slow but I would expect it to continue to get better daily as June progresses.  We still have openings give us a call and lets go fishing.

Spring Fishing

Spring is upon us and the ice has gone out on the Little Su and Big Su.  There are a few reports of fish being caught on the Deshka at the mouth but fishing is still slow.  I have been getting the rods, reels and tackle ready as well as putting a fresh coat of paint on the boat and floorboards. We are starting our charters in late May and are looking forward to this season of awesome fishing, give us a call at (907) 745-1712 or email us at greg@alaskasusitnacharters.com to book your trip today.

Cabin December and January

I have been up to the lake every weekend since Christmas.  I have set out a few traps with my nephews, we are trying to catch Martin and ermine.  I have also put out a couple of Beaver sets next to an active beaver hutch.  We have had three martin in our sets and they have escaped.  I have caught one ermine and two beaver.  The temps have been from +30 F to -20 F on our trips with 0 to -5  being the norm.
We have caught a few pike, most trips are overnight and we have not set tipups out, be we did catch a 38" in Pike in Late December.
